A Licensed Sponsor employer need to employ you in order for you to apply for this visa.
Your employer then provide you with a Certificate of Sponsorship.which includes conditions and details of your employment contract.
You are allowed to apply for the visa 3 months earlier than your start date of the job.
You will get the decision on your visa within 3 weeks from the date when you apply.

Duration of visa
You can stay on Tier 2 (General) visa for a maximum of 5 years and 14 days, or the duration stated on your certificate of sponsorship plus 1 month.
You are allowed to arrive in the UK 2 weeks before your job due to start.
You may be able to extend this visa for up to another 5 years.
